Stockholm part 2

Now that a week has gone by, I should do a little recap of my trip to Stockholm. Stockholm is a very beautiful city with a lot to offer as far as museums, parks, and other cultural sites. Having said that I am much more partial to Gothenburg. Despite there being plenty to do and see, I found the city to be less visitor friendly and a lot more expensive. My friends and I did do some cool things though. The first day we walked around the old city of Gamla Stan, and visited the Nobel museum. We had gotten up early that morning, so when we couldn't find a cheap enough bar that evening we weren't too upset and made an early night of it at the hostel. Saturday we went for a walk through the city center and then witnessed the changing of the guards in front of the royal palace. Saturday was also international record store day so a few of us went shopping, but by the time we got to the record store all of the things I wanted were gone. After that we had lunch in the park and then went for a walk around town where we saw a few statues and and the Riksdag. On Sunday we visited Skansen, which is kind of like the colonial Williamsburg of Sweeden. There were old houses and artisans and and an exhibit of Scandinavian animals. All in all it was very disappointing. After Skansen was the highlight of the trip for me. A few of us split away from the group to visit the Vasa Museum. It was a museum dedicated to the Swedish warship Vasa which sunk on its maiden voyage due to its being too heavy. The ship was salvaged and restored, and is now housed in the museum. It was very interesting. That night I went to a sports bar to watch the Rangers play but in hindsight that seems like it was a waste of time. Stockholm is very nice but it is definitely not my favorite city. Check back tomorrow for an update about my cruise and Riga.
